June 21, 22, 23, 24, 2018 Bourne Scenic Park, Bourne, MA

June 21, 2018

We have been extremely fortunate to have had such a beautiful week here on the Cape. Having a camp site right on the Cape Cod Canal is amazing.  The stairs are right across from our  site and  we are on the canal in less then a minute.  Kasey has been loving it as  well and looks frowrd to her long walks.

Wes was feeling better this morning so they decided to join us for dinner later today. When they arrived I took a look at his right leg. Ginny had told me it was hot and swollen but Wes didn't want to go to the doctor. He felt it would clear itself.  Indeed it is swollen and red. It looked like a cellulitis  of some sort to me and I told him he should see a doctor ASAP.  He said he would call his PCP in the morning.

We had an enjoyable visit and a great meal. Shis-ka-bob, scallops, macaroni salad, regular salad and brownies for desert topped off the menu.

After dinner we chatted for a while. I thought it might be a good idea to check  Wes's leg and foot again. Well, in the 4 hours that they were here visiting his leg got much worse! The edema and redness had worsened and his toes and foot were badly discolored. He had a hard time standing on that foot and was in obvious pain. I suggested that an ER visit was in order and they were on their way.

Around 11 pm Ginny called to let me know that Wes was being admitted for IV antibiotics. Thankfully he agreed  to go to the ER. I think the change in his leg and foot scared him.  He has quite the infection going on and will be in the hospital for a few days.

I spoke to Ginny this morning and Wes told her his leg looks a little better . Will be seen by ID sometime today.

We decided to take a ride into Hyannis today for lunch and ate at Tugboats at the Hyannis Marina.

I had a salmon burger and Ron had clam chowder and a stuffed  quahog. Everything was delicious. Especially the chocolate lava cake we had for desert.

Forgot to get  before picture but the after picture says it all! LOL

Later we took another walk on the canal and ran into what we thought was a dog or seal swimming in the water.

It  turned out to be driftwood that looked eerily alive!!!!

Tomorrow is our last day here at Bourne Scenic Park. It has been a good week and very relaxing. Tonight we talked to Wes and he is doing  better. He was seen by ID and will be on IV antibiotics for the weekend and may be able to go home on Sunday. Things  are looking up.

June 23, 2018

This morning several campers pulled out and a group of young people pulled in across from us. There are multiple trucks and cars and also a very large stereo system that has been set up. We think our quiet time here has come to an end!

It rained a good part of the day today. The first inclement weather we have experienced this week. We spent the morning inside but did manage to get a walk on the canal during an afternoon break in the rain.

June 24, 2018

As we expected, last evening it got very noisy  and loud here. Kids screaming and music  blaring  from our new neighbors. The elderly man across the way told Ron he din't sleep all night because of the loud music. So much for the multiple rules that are not enforced here.

Before leaving this morning Ron had to fill in two holes that Kasey had dug under the MH.

It is hard to tell by the picture but the hole is about 2-3 feet deep.

The ride home was short and uneventful. Once home we unpacked and settle in. We will be leaving again in two weeks for Maine. Another adventure awaits us.

June 17, 18, 19, 20, 2018 - Bourne Scenic Park, Bourne, MA

June 17, 2018

We spent a couple of days (actually 3) getting the MH loaded.  We had completely emptied the MH after we got home so had to start from scratch.  Ron & I forgot how much work it is to ready the MH for a trip. He initially said we should do a two day trip. NOPE! Too much work for just two days.

I was lucky to get a week at Bourne Scenic Park. I think it is because it is still the shoulder season even though they charge full price. When we checked in  and drove to our site I couldn't believe how packed in and close the sites are. Ron & I have been here several times with friends walking the canal and walking through the park but never really paid that close attention I guess.

Our site C309 is at the far end of the park. The roads are very narrow with tight turns but we got there ok.

I read in the paperwork that the park is 60% seasonal with the waiting list to get in closed at 300 waiting on that list. Yikes! Although there are campers set up everywhere there are very few people here. It is sooooo quiet. We do see some cars and the camp sites but no people milling around.

Once we settled in we took a walk on the canal. The weather is beautiful and we finally found the sunshine we have been looking for.

June 18, 2018

Another nice day is on the agenda. Didn't do much today but did make a determination that we cannot wait until next year to get the jacks fixed. They are stubborn and refuse to go up without help. Ron is going to call HWH when we get home and see if they can recommend someone for us.

Took another long walk on the canal (2 miles) and enjoyed the day.

As we were walking along we saw a bike with an unusual kick -stand and of course Ron had to take a picture! Pretty innovative!

On our way back from our walk realization hit. We had to walk up 40 stairs to get to our camp site. All I could think is that it will help with flexibility in my new right knee. Just kidding, I was really thinking, Uggh, I have to walk up those stairs.

Back at our site we relaxed and continue to enjoy the nice weather. Later that evening we did another 2 mile walk. Not doing a whole lot but definitely enjoying the down time. It has been a hectic Spring for us.

June 19, 2018

Today we headed out on another very long walk. First to the end of the park and on to the entrance. Ron wanted to check out the pool so we headed there. Surprisingly the pool was closed and Ron didn't get any pictures. We did get water for Kasey. I was concerned because she is so little and it is very hot. Fortunately the wind was blowing so made it a little more bearable.

Later that day we took a ride to the Scussett Beach Campground. We have a week booked there in September so wanted to check out our site. Then we walked on the Beach where it was 10 degrees cooler then  4 miles back at Bourne.

Back at our site I prepared to make dinner. Burgers on the grill. Nope, grill died. It was completely dead despite Ron's best efforts at resuscitation. So it was off to the Plymouth Dick's Sporting Goods to get a replacement. We needed to buy a small fold-up so opted to  replace our old grill with the same grill, a  Coleman Road Trip  LXE.

Picked the grill and got it set up.  Will be using it tomorrow because we are expecting company so I will be preparing shis-ka-bob.

June 20, 2018

Ginny and Wes were scheduled to come for a visit today. Unfortunately, Wes is quite sick having spent too many hours in the hot sun yesterday. Dehydration has knocked him for a loop. I did talk to them later in the day and Wes is feeling better but not great. Get well soon.

We walked a bit further on the canal today and ran into some art work on the retaining walls up near the visitor center done by Americorps Cape Cod.

A little further on the canal we found more art work that was pretty cool too.

We walked about 2.5 miles in beautiful weather. Our little Kasey does a great job walking long distances.

Cooking dinner on our new grille.

It was a quiet day here today. Took two long walks on the canal and continue to enjoy the great weather.

Getting Ready to Leave for Bourne Scenic Park, Bourne, MA

We arrived home from our winter trip on March 23, 2018. We had three lists of small and big repairs to do on the MH. When we arrived home it was cold, raining and just miserable so we couldn't begin the repairs right away. We checked out the possibility of buying a new MH but couldn't find anything we either wanted to pay the price for or  that we loved enough. We were going to bring the MH to a repair shop but at $145.00 an hour decided we could do the majority of repairs ourselves especially since only two of the repairs would definitely need  a professional to do.

Ron replaced the slide topper with some help from our lawn guys. Thank you Paul and Joshua! It wasn't planned but they jumped in without being asked.

Joshua also happened to be doing the lawn when our replacement recliner arrived and he helped take the old one out and bring the new one into the MH.

Ron replaced the washer/dryer that happened to arrive when our friends were here because we had just picked them up at Logan Airport and they wanted to get their dog Riley before going home. He helped carry the washer/dryer in with Ron and also helped install it. Thanks Wes. My job was to make sure everyone was fed. LOL

Except for the wash & wax job on the MH, replacing the fuel filter, oil change and sticker we did everything else. As I said most were small things we are capable of doing.

We spent time with our friends Donna and Wayne for our Friday night dinners and caught up on the happenings in the world.

In between working on the  MH we scheduled to have Ron's Mom's living room rug cleaned. We both went over to move the small  pieces of furniture and cleaned out some closets and drawers for her.
She was very happy with the rug cleaning results. She did not want to replace it so it worked out well.

Ron and I - more him then me  fixed her outside stair railing. That was a job! The stairs really need to be either fixed or replaced but she does not want anything done on the house expect a couple of minor repairs. At 93 that is her prerogative.

We also attended our great grandson Jack's  first Birthday. He is so cute and funny.

We spent some time with our friends Chris and Joe in Kingston and had a great visit and feast.

Visited Linda and John with Kasey, in Pelham NH. Kasey loved the windows and spent some time watching the birds.  LOL

We also caught up with our friends that we met in Florida who happen to live in Norton, Berniece and Ken. They showed us their replacement chairs in their MH and how their dog loves them! LOL

We had the pleasure of taking Ginny and We's dog Reilly for 10 days while they vacationed in Washington with family. Reilly and Kasey got along really well and made us laugh every day.

The only major thing  left to do on the MH is have the leveling jacks repaired. We had to make a decision whether we will be heading to Alaska this summer and stop at HWH in Iowa on the way or just wait until next year. After much debate we decided to hold off on the Alaska trip and book some short trips locally. Hence we will begin our first excursion only 30 minutes away in Bourne. The goal here to to make sure everything we have done works!
